Back Pain

Something we can all relate to – after a long day of sitting at a desk, or too much gardening in the back yard. Sometimes it’s a chronic, debilitating condition that can last weeks, months, and even years. Scores of treatments have been developed to try to alleviate back pain – most are not effective.

85% of back pain not associated with a single known cause.

Other root causes of back pain are related to spinal conditions such as sciatica, bulging disc, spinal stenosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, skeletal irregularities, osteoporosis and accidents.

Western Medicine’s response is mostly pharmaceutical – costly, damaging, and often addictive drugs such as NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory agents to hard core opioid analgesics – such as OxyCodone, Narco, and Vicodin. These drugs have serious side effects. While pharmaceutical drugs may temporarily resolve acute pain they do not adequately address most cases of chronic pain, and rarely impact root causes.

Another treatment option often prescribed in Western Medicine is Physical Therapy – which has proven over time to be hit or miss in terms of its effectiveness.

The one treatment with few, if any, side effects – is acupuncture. Acupuncture treats back pain by leveraging the body to heal itself – which makes it an ideal treatment option for chronic pain.

How does it do that?

Acupuncture produces a massive release of the dopamine and serotonin that exists already in your body which in turn triggers a neurological response that blocks pain. Optimal treatment requires integrative use of acupuncture, medical massage, and herbal remedies.

All these therapies work together to treat root causes, strengthen the body, and facilitate recovery from chronic pain – and do not have the grueling side-effects of pharmaceutical drugs.
